Digital Asset Management (DAM)

Maximize the Value of Digital Assets

overview:
Digital Asset Management (DAM) system is a tool to handle digital content like images, text files and virtually any other data format. These media files can be attributed with meta information. Such information can describe the content
(description, keywords, location), provide technical data (image size) or copyright
information for example. All this information can be used to handle, find and categorize the media files.

GCN's Digital asset management adds a meta-layer of information to every file in a semi-automatic indexing process, allowing publishers to search for attributes in a database associated with the files.

Assets as building blocks for content often are used to produce automated output, like image galleries and download areas. Digital asset management serves these output functions by providing an interface for retrieving assets filtered by any combination of meta data criteria.

DAM Features:

• Categorization through an intuitive user interface. This categorization features
allows the publisher to quickly and easily look up and find a variety of digital assets.

• The categorization functions/features allows for a higher level of organization. Rather then requiring files be placed in an organized folder structure organization can be attained via this function (which also allows for assets to be managed in multiple/many groupings).

• Original/Copy functionality. This allows the user to upload a file of any size and
have the system resize the original version as a copy for practical use throughout the site. The key here is efficiency in delivery of web server assets (e.g. graphic files are optimized for web delivery thus cutting down on the bandwidth required to serve the files).

• Use tracking. The system keeps track of the number of times and the places an asset was used.  When a variety of editorial “managers” are utilizing digital assets
uploaded to the site this helps to prevent over saturation of use of a particular asset (an editor or art director can note how many times a graphic was used and choose a different graphic if desired).

No. At GCN, we enable you to run and maintain your own site without constantly having to involve developers. You can even host your site on your owner servers if you wish.
